Computer precision designed and cut for your make and model of your vehicle. 3M makes the film with a clear coat. Almost like the clear coat on your car now. Maintenance-free protection. With the 3M Paint Protection Film on your vehicle it does not alter your vehicle's aerodynamics or appearance. You know about Bug Shields, Vinyl Bras and Hard Plastic covers to protect your paint and lights? Bug shields affect the aerodynamics of your vehicle and can cause noise and buffeting. Vinyl bras are high maintenance. You have to remove them when you wash or bad weather. Additionally, both products will eventually rub through your paint, cause your paint to fade at different rates, and totally alter the appearance of your vehicle. Hard plastic headlamp covers need to be removed for cleaning, diminish the headlamp's illumination, and are as fragile as the lights they protect.

Q.	Will Paint Protection Film harm the painted surface if the film is removed?
A.	If the film is properly applied to a fully cured painted vehicle, it can be removed, usually in one piece, without damaging paint surfaces beneath the film.
Q.	Can Paint Protection Film be applied over a vehicle that has had the paint touched up?
A.	It is recommends that any repainted surfaces on your vehicle be professionally painted and fully cured before applying paint protection film. If you have touched up scratches or chips with a tube of "touch-up" paint and then apply paint protection film over it, the film will protect that area until it is removed. If the paint protection film is removed, it is possible that the area around the non-professional touch-up paint could peel off. What should I consider when installing film on repainted surfaces? Repainted surfaces can be a touchy subject as it is not as durable as the factory finish. Factory finishes are baked onto the surface at 350+ degrees which allows a much harder surface and better cohesion bond. Repainted surfaces can be baked only at 150 degrees to prevent damage to the vehicles components and therefore the surface can be more susceptible to lifting, however, if it is a quality job then the burden of concern should not be so much.
Q.	Will the paint smear if Paint Protection Film is applied over a newly painted vehicle?
A.	The paint on a newly painted vehicle must be cured according to manufacturer's recommendations. Your body shop should be able to provide you with this information. Q. Does Paint Protection Film stick to bumpers? A. Yes.   Q. Does Paint Protection Film stick to plastic? A. Yes.   Q. Does Paint Protection Film resist yellowing? A. Yes, it resists yellowing because the film is constructed of thermoplastic urethane, a tough, conformable material that is covered by a clear coat layer. The film and clear coat layers contain UV protestants to counteract harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause yellowing. Q. How is Paint Protection Film maintained? A. Once applied, refrain from washing the vehicle in an automated car wash for 24 hours. Washing after that time presents no problem, and no special care need be taken for the film.   Q. Can I use wax over Paint Protection Film? A. Yes. When waxing the vehicle, some wax may build up along the film edges. This can easily be removed when dry with a soft cloth, such as a 3M™ High Performance Cloth. Do not use any waxes containing dyes or waxes that are not recommended for urethanes. Abrasive polishes and/or rubbing compounds are not to be used. Proper Care of Film  All too many times I get asked, “how long is the warranty and will the film look the same 5 or 7 years later from the day it was put on?” Now to answer that question I like to ask this simple question in return. If you were to go and buy a brand new car off the show room floor, will it look like the day you drove it off the show room floor 5 or 7 years later? He or she usually laughs and says “well I guess that depends on how well I take care of it”, which is exactly how I respond to their initial question regarding the product. Another thing to think about is this. Let’s pretend for a minute that their was a film that did not age whatsoever and looked like the day it was installed 7, 10, 15 years later. What will the rest of the vehicle look like? The front end would stand out like a sore thumb because it would be immaculate while the rest of the vehicle would show signs of aging! An example: if you took three black painted panels and set panel A outside for a period of one year, waxing it daily, panel B outside never touching it, and panel C inside an enclosed dark room that all three will look different after on year? Panel C will look like the day you placed it in the room, panel B will look slightly different from panel A because of the damaging elements of outdoor exposure, and panel B will more than likely show some harsher damage from the same elements of outdoor exposure. What everyone needs to understand is that these protective films are porous and so is the paint on your vehicle! Both will expand in the hot sun and can absorb dirt and moisture which makes it important to keep both surfaces clean when possible. When it comes to cleaning protective films, you need to understand that the use of waxes and polishes containing dyes will cause the film to discolor, primarily turning yellow, gold, or a light brown color. I recommend using PLEXUS or Ice Polish by Turtle Wax. Also remember that bird droppings, tree sap, bug acids, mineral deposits from hard water, and acid rain (to name a few) can potentially damage the painted surface, so what effect do you think they will have on the beautiful surface of the paint protection film? They can cause damage as well, so it is important to remove these immediately if encountered. Remember, the job of the film is to protect the surface beneath it and your job is to do the best you can keeping both looking new.
